Quilting is my therapy!

If anyone who reads this can say a little prayer for my cousin and her family right now, I'd really appreciate it. About 2 weeks ago, she was in a terrible car accident and her head injuries were so severe they are giving very little hope of coming out of the coma she is in now. Her one and only daughter, age 4 months is doing okay now, only a minor head injury and some cuts and scrapes from flying glass. It was my cousin that bore the impact the passenger side of the car crushed into her, and by some miracle her baby behind her was okay. My cousin's husband who came upon the scene of the accident is still distraught.

The teddy bear quilt top that I am finishing up now is for my cousin's baby Shae. Many thanks to Barbara for most of the teddy bear blocks (I only did one!) and to Hanne for 4 of the 4 patches. I am embroidering eyes and noses for the bears, then will do some simple quilting. I am also going to do a scrappy top for my cousin using the diamond square block seen around blogland lately. My aunt told me my cousin's favorite color is peach and since I only found 2 scraps big enough for my block's center I've actually broken down and bought some peach fabric for the quilt border and some of the block centers. I hope to get this done in the next few weeks.

The alphabet quilt for my daughter might not be done by her 2nd birthday on June 19, but I want to work on these quilts first right now.

I finished up my other baby quilt...now to get about a zillion tops quilted!!

DJ is up to Row J now, three more to go...

Our pink house is gone...we had to take back our deposit...too many legal entanglements we didn't want to take on ourselves. We are back to looking in a nicer village along the Shannon River that has everything within walking distance, including a PATCHWORK CLUB! This is quite amazing as quilting is not popular here...once I heard about this club, it was decided, buying or renting for short term, Ballina, Co. Tipperary here we come!

If you made it this far, thanks for reading!!! And keep a good thought for my cousin's family!

Cathi, sorry to hear that your cousin's injuries were so serious. Certainly will keep her and her family in my prayers. I can understand why those two quilts will take precedence at your house.

The teddy bears are adorable!

Peach is hard for me to find too, I've looked for some fabric for peach curtains, and only been able to find a blotchy hand dyed looking peach in the shade I want - which won't look good with the blotchy sponge painted peach walls in the room.

I'll keep your cousin's situation in my thoughts, and hope she improves.

I'm so sorry about your cousin. I hope she recovers. I will keep her in my prayers.
I'm sorry about the house too. Hopefully a different one will be even better for you. A quilt club sounds fun.
The bear quilt is cute and the one for your cousin is gorgeous.
Good luck. I hope things start looking up.

I can understand you turning to quilting for comfort during these times. I think that quilter's often turn to making a quilt for someone who is going through something and as we stitch loving thoughts into each seam it somehow helps us come to terms with our own feelings. Keep sewing - it will help you keep your sanity as you have so much going on in your life right now.

Cheers!

Evelyn

I agree with Evelyn-it really helps to work on those quilts-knowing they are a physical show of your loving concern. Sounds like you are better off without the issues of the pink house-especially if instead you found somewhere that has quilters! that is so great sounding Cathi

The quilt for your cousin's baby is wonderful, and will hopefully bring some joy to what must be a distraught family right now. Out of curiosity, where did the pattern for those bear blocks come from?

Good luck on the house end!

Cathi--my prayers for your cousin will keep on going, I'm so sorry to hear the prognosis is not good. And like Evelyn says, you making that adorable quilt for her baby will be good therapy for you as you pray with each little stitch. Or at least I do.

So sorry to hear about your pink house, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise. I bet you find even a better one and then you'll have the bonus of being near other quilters!

I'm so sorry to hear of your cousin's injury. We will all keep praying for her recovery. There is always hope. Her poor husband - I can imagine how distraught he must be -starting a new life with his wife and new baby and to have this happen.

I'm sorry also to hear about the house - I'm sure you are terribly disappointed. It looked like such a nice little pink house.

Making baby quilts is good therapy I think. God Bless

Hi Cathi,

We've not heard from you for awhile. I sure hope that's not because the news about your cousin continues to be bad. I'm sending prayers your way every day and wondering how things are going. May God be with all of you in this most difficult time.
